We are currently looking to recruit an experienced Health & Safety Manager, this position is primarily to manage all Health & Safety at various construction sites throughout the UK.

Main tasks will include preparation of site files, ensuring that the Company meets all statutory requirements. Carry out site inspections, inductions of site personnel.

The successful candidate for this position will have demonstrable experience in effective management and delivery of health and safety management systems with extensive experience of conducting risk assessments, including fire risk assessments, and following through actions. You will have extensive knowledge of current health & safety legislation, regulations, codes of practice. You will embed and drive forward a health & safety culture within the business.

Applicants must hold NEBOSH General & Construction certificate.

JOB TITLE: Health and Safety Manager

RESPONSIBLE TO: Construction Director

BASED AT: Office/Site Based

JOB PURPOSE: To take responsibility as the trained person for all aspects of the companies Health and Safety and to ensure that the Company fully meets all statutory requirements in its policy and actions. Confirm with Health and Safety Co-ordinator that all areas are covered and provide cover in cases of absence.  Monitor standards, processes, communications, training and systems to ensure:

KEY TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Distribute and promote an awareness of the health and safety policy.
  • Actively assist managers to maintain a safe place of work for all residents, employees, visitors, contractors and members of the public.
  • The workplaces satisfy health and safety, welfare, legal, company and any other requirements.
  • Preparation of Health and Safety site files, complete main-contractor Health and Safety questionnaires.
  • Manage and maintain approved Sub-contract data-base, includes checking payment claims against data, including sub-contract Health and Safety Information.
  • Carry out onsite inspection of, Scaffolds and certification records (tags), site induction records and keep up to date records.
  • Updating of COSHH Data.
  • Maintain weekly site inspection sheets.
  • Ensure weekly testing of the fire alarm and organise periodic fire drills are completed.
  • Monitor and keep up to date risk assessments and method statements for the sites.
  • Investigate accidents, incidents and near misses, reports of work related illness and dangerous occurrences, making sure that the information is properly recorded and making recommendations for discussion on preventing reoccurrence.
  • Organise Health and Safety meetings, keeping records of such for prompt circulation.
  • Ensure Health and Safety Induction’s of employees, contractors and visitors is carried out.
  • Complete maintenance manual information for clients as requested.
  • Check all sites for correct signage, electrical equipment testing, ladders, and site H & S equipment.
  • Safe plant and machinery, safe movement on site, storage and use of articles and substances, equipment is up to date and maintained, fire equipment, signs, electrical equipment testing, ladders, site H & S equipment.
  • Maintain an up-to-date knowledge of current and proposed legislation relating to health and safety issues, in order to interpret, evaluate then advice Directors and Managers on the implications of such legislation on company activities.
  • Carry out training both in house and on site in Manual Handling and other areas as they are identified.
  • Carry out inspections and audits covering health and safety issues.
  • Approve Risk assessments and Method Statements for all company activities and requirements.
  • Ensure that all subcontractors on and off site comply with health and safety requirements, company requirements and any other requirements.
  • Under take training, as discussed and agreed with Directors so as to become qualified as a trainer in areas required.
  • To perform any other activities reasonably required of the jobholder in order to meet the needs of the business.
